Sorry for the absence - three friends and I have been on a zoo tour the past days and quite unexpectedly, we didn't have internet access in our holiday home. I'm still catching up on the backlog of comments and watches (and deviations!)...
As for the trip:
The weather was awful. Wednesday was okay, but the other days it was raining and raining and raining... Not fun. We still visited the zoos we planned to, but we didn't stay long and of course, taking photos was nearly impossible. Some flight displays we wanted to see were also cancelled due to the weather, so yeah, bad luck.
We've been to Vogelpark Walsrode (awesome place! - if you like birds, that is, for the only mammal we've seen was a fruit bat
) and they had some great flight displays, featuring e.g. a Secretary Bird, an Andean Condor, and a lovely Bateleur Eagle (sadly, I didn't get any good shots of him which is a shame, he was such a beauty!). BUT I got some decent shots of their Shoebill <3 All in all, they have quite an impressive collection of birds.The other zoos we visited were Serengetipark Hodenhagen - quite nice setup, it's like a safari; you can drive through the park in one of their busses with a guide or using your own car. We chose the bus since the road also leads through enclosures of lions, tigers, baboons and white rhinos
They also have a monkey part you can walk through and we had so much fun with the ring-tailed lemurs since they didn't like the rain either and sat on our shoulders, safe from the rain under our umbrellas Wildpark Schwarze Berge was really pretty but it was raining so hard that we were soaked after just two hours. And on our last day, we threw a coin to decide on our last zoo - it was Tierpark Ströhen which is small, but nice (except for the elephant enclosure...) and since the weather cleared up, we paid one last visit to Walsrode on the way back to see the last show of the day and take some more photos.
So, all in all, expect loads of bird photos
