Well, it somehow STILL is animal photography... ;)

As someone who needs to try ANYTHING, I came across sculpting lately (that is, one week ago) and decided to give it a try as I hardly ever find a dragon sculpture I like when looking for something to decorate my shelves with. ;)

First, I wanna say THANK YOU to the following people for sharing their awesome tutorials; I couldn't have done without them. :)

:iconindimew: - [link]
:iconeiriel: - [link] for the mesh idea - couldn't have done the dragon wings without it.

This lady is about 18cm (7 inches) long and tall, completely hand made from polymer clay (white fimo, in this case) over wire armature and some tin foil. About 90% of the rock she's standing on are balled up tin foil; there's only a thin layer of clay added. All in all, I've used 0,5kg (1,1 lbs) of clay.

I don't know yet if I like her better with or without the wings. Right now, they're baked and everything, but not yet finally attached to her body, hence the holes in her shoulder. I guess I'll decide about that after painting her.

She's baked, but not painted yet. If you'd like to help me, here're some examples of what I think I might paint her: [link]
She needs to remain mostly white as I simply don't have enough acrylic paint to cover her whole body. ;) And I think white suits her well, I just don't want to leave her fully white as that would be kinda boring.
Oh, and she still needs a name. Any suggestions? ^_^

There will surely be more fantasy sculptures, so stay tuned ;)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. :)

Beautiful work, fantastic detail and such a sense of emotion!

I've seen embossing dust and similar powdered pigments brushed on for a very nice subtle colour effect, perhaps this might suit her? Also with many of those powders you can opt for something slightly sparkly to give a magical feel. If you brush the dust on carefully with a fine paintbrush you should be able to get it to just shadow the scales and add a faint tint where you want it. Pale blue would be my suggestion, since she looks a little sad, like she's missing someone. Or pale green, as I can imagine a lonely dragon going out in the rain and perhaps getting a little bit mossy between the scales?

For the eyes I would recommend some kind of opalescent paint to match the white bits, with a hint of whatever detail colour you're using around the eyes and snout/lips just to make the eyes a little more visible.
